Opinion: Can We All Just Admit The News Is Terrible?

In recent years, there has been a noticeable decline in the quality of American news. Once, it was a reliable source of what was going on in the world. We used to turn to the news so we could be well informed individuals. Now, if you turn to any major American news channel, all you see is unimportant bullshit like the civil war in Syria or the economic instability of the Eurozone. Who gives a shit?

How can our most trusted news organizations blatantly ignore such crimes against humanity like The Lego Movie getting snubbed for an Oscar nomination? Millions of people were flat out disappointed, and there was nothing about it on any of the mainstream media outlets.

Instead, there were just reports of things like “beheadings,” or “war crimes,” or “the rich exploiting the poor.” Nobody cares about that. Those people in Syria aren’t even Americans, and they’re barely even white. I don’t want to hear about them. I want to hear about good ol’ wealthy American people. That’s what’s really important.

I mean, think about it. 100 years from now, are you going to see things in history books about how Bashar al-Assad was using chemical weapons against his own citizens? Fuck no. They’re going to be full of the important events of the early 21st century, like Kim Kardashian’s ass, or how Brian Williams lied to us. We just don’t care about those 4,000 Africans dying of ebola. So could American news outlets finally get the memo and quit talking about them non-stop?
