Frank Martin Fired After Disappointing Season

University of South Carolina Athletic Director Ray Tanner has confirmed today that Men’s Basketball Coach Frank Martin has been fired. This move occurred after this most recent disappointing season which saw the Gamecocks again fail to win the championship.

When interviewed about the firing, Tanner said “South Carolina basketball has a strong tradition dating back almost a year, and Martin failed to meet those standards. It’s not acceptable to settle for second place.”

After losing a disappointing ten games in the regular season, Frank Martin became the first Gamecock Basketball coach since 2004 to lose an NCAA tournament game. This has left many students on campus angry and bitter. “Everybody says we’re a basketball school, but I’m not so sure anymore,” senior Jay Hemming said. “Coach Martin seems like a good guy, but moral fiber doesn’t make free throws.”

Tanner’s decision to remove Martin has been universally championed by the student body and alumni nationwide. Even Hootie and the Blowfish frontman Darius Rucker had to agree, saying, “It’s no secret I love my Gamecocks, so it’s great to see them take a step in the right direction.”

When asked for comment on his firing, Frank Martin thanked the University for the opportunity and expressed regret at his lackluster performance.
